I’ve been saying something similar for years: Consoles going online was the worst thing to ever happen to them. Their selling point used to be that you’d put in a cartridge/disc, and it would “just work”. Now it has all the downsides of PC gaming, with none of the upsides.
Oh man, I loved the simplicity of FreeBSD. I was actually running it for a bit on my homelab. It was so nice and straightforward, wich suuuuuuch good documentation.

I think things are getting better. I’m not going to lie and tell you that it’s no longer a problem, but I think you can do a lot more with a little patience. I know there’s a lot of different implementations, so you might need to experiment as well. Good luck!
Agreed. Even something like: “Read up more on this here at someurl.com for more info”. The assumption that everyone knows how your repo works, as well as the 3 different build-tools that you use, is quite a lot. audio - Most of the time it works, but there have been plenty of times that after an install, I have to go in and make a handfull of changes to get it working.
“you are using it wrong” developers - Lookin at you, Gnome, Mozilla and Pottering. Yes, you are donating your time, and I appreciate that, but don’t be dismissive of people if they bring up valid issues. If you just don’t want to fix problems, that’s fine, but just be honest about that, instead of blaming the user.
sleep/hibernate - I’ve never depended on sleep or hibernate to work properly. I gave up on that years ago, and whenever I come back and try it again, I remember why I gave it up.
documentation - As a seasoned linux person, I love man-pages, but they are soooooo obtuse and hard to parse for newbies. I also hate it when the website has mountains of documentation, but they couldn’t be bothered to put that into the man-pages.
video/wifi drivers - Yes, I know that this is mostly a problem because of the manufacturers. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a problem.
unsympathetic users - Just because it works for you, doesn’t mean it works for other people. I can’t wait for year-of-the-linux-desktop, but it just isn’t there yet. As soon as you have to tell a non-tech to open a terminal, the vast majority of them are out. You and I know that ‘editing /etc/somedir/somefile and running /usr/sbin/somecommand’ is easy, but sooooo many of them don’t know what that means, nor will they care. I hear that windows is pretty bad nowadays, but people will often stick with the devil they know.

Fun fact: When you do iptables-save, you have to redirect the output if you want to save it to a file. But when you use iptables-restore, you don’t need to pipe it back in, you can just use the filename!
Before you make a change, do this in a screen-session:

I’ve been self-hosting my own AI stuff for a bit using Ollama. I use it to create images, design a tattoo, run a chatbot, write emails, write code and commit-messages, run a D&D game, explain concepts that I’m not familiar with, translate languages, etc.
I’ve been toying with different models, and I’m not sure that I have one that I would say is a goto. I am liking Ollama to be able to easily pull in and test new LLMs, as well as Stable-Diffusion for image generation/modification.
How do you like them? How long have you had them?
I only buy digital, since I don’t like having a lot of “stuff” around. GOG is my goto, since I can just back them up to my server. I only tolerate Steam for special purchases that aren’t offered on GOG, probably ~2 games a year.

That used to fail pretty frequently for me. It wasn’t the worst bug, but it was pretty annoying.
I wasn’t doubtful, unfortunately. I went in a true-believer, expecting to get a Religious-Studies degree. But I left early as an Atheist. I’m glad that I did, but fundamentally shifting my life like that really messed me up. Deprogramming myself was the hardest, but best decision that I ever made.
