Most of the power draw is from the hdds. I have the same issue. If you want less power consumption. Invest in SSD or SSD and HDD hybrid where you store quick access files on SSD and rare access on hdd (then you can spin them down with timeout of , let’s say 30-60 min). This should save some energy

WTF, this is new to me. Sounds like generic distro hop with less steps. Nice
As you mentioned, 99% I had in the last month two devices , one from 2014 and one from 2024. The 2014 laptop had minimal missing driver problems on windows 10 that took me a while to find and fix, except for one driver that still is missing. The 2024 laptop that I wanted to reinstall windows 11, did not like it when you USB boot windows 11. It had missing drivers for everything, Network, GPU, Mouse Trackpad, the installer also prompted for Driver CD input, like , what??? I had to repair the installed windows instead, don’t know why this happened.
For ultimative noops. Fedora Atomic. You can’t do much wrong. Only problem is that adding missing driver need some terminal experience , but tell me where it is easy to add missing driver…without catching a virus
Archinstall getting easier than windows 11 install is kind of a fucked up future

I switched to iOS after being on Android from version 2-11. It just would be nice to have it also on the iPhone. Or I quit YouTube, by the time it should be full with AI videos….

Oh sorry. Did not know that.
Apple Music can be replaced with Cider on Linux. Many use iTunes on windows for device management, the only thing that I know for this on linux is libimobiledevice.
I like netNewsWire on iOS

LeTak@lemm.eeto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Just tried Immich to replace Google photos9·8 months agoI forgot to mention. You can obviously self host it. Server and client are open source.
LeTak@lemm.eeto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Just tried Immich to replace Google photos7·8 months agoI personally switched to Ente.io for shared photo albums. Works great. Encrypted, cheap and you don’t have to make an account as a guest user. I highly recommend that you give it a try. Also if you want to (opt-in). It got on device AI/ML for face and object recognition.
Isn’t the GPU used for the application defined by the monitor it is opened on and on which GPU this monitor is then connected to?
I use portmaster on my fedora instance. I disabled blocking all from LAN and made a custom rule set to allow some devices and block all others.
LeTak@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?English1·2 years agoI like it. The memes and entertainment are growing and good enough for me. But the knowledge base needs more input so that it can be used at some point as discussion forum for problems in different categories. Like the old Reddit were you could search if people had this problem and solved it etc etc.
Good point. I looked mostly at the spec sheet from the manufacturer and for example the Samsung 870 Evo vs Seagate IronWolf NAS Drive. Side note, AFAIK NVME drives have a higher power consumption. Especially PCIe 5.0.
My NAS with 2 HDDs from Seagate has a total powerdraw of around 30-40w. And I don’t spin the drives down.
